Scarce Early World War II Japanese Type 97 Sniper Rifle with Scope and Canvas Scope Can

This rifle was manufactured by the Kokura Arsenal and is fitted with the earlier small 2.5 power scope. The left side of the receiver has the serial number "2734" next to the Kokura arsenal symbol. The chrysanthemum has been stuck twice but not ground off and the Kana markings are intact. It has the long staff adjustable rear sight and the inverted "V" front sight with guards. It is fitted with a monopod block on the middle barrel band, however the monopod is missing as well as the bayonet lug. The scope is correct early 2.5X model that is marked on the rear ocular piece with "2.5x10 degrees)/NIKKO/No 8511" with the front part of the scope base numbered to rifle "4768". The rifle is fitted with a reproduction rubber eye cup. It has the full length hardwood stock and hand guard with the finger grooves on the side of the forearm. It is complete with the original leather sling and a late war canvas scope can and shoulder strap.

Very fine with 85% of the blue finish overall with blue loss on the edges and high spots with thinning on the floor plate. The bolt remains in the original in the white polished finish. The stock and hand guards are all near excellent with nice original color mixed with some minor handling marks on the lower sides of the buttstock. The scope retains 98% of its original black finish with clear sharp markings. The optics are clear with an intact sharp reticle with a hint of haziness inside. The scope can is very fine with nice original green exterior finish with nice markings on the shoulder strap, however it is missing the small leather tab on the lid. The rifle has a mismatched bolt assembly and scope and it is missing the front barrel band, otherwise it is in really nice original condition.
