Scarce Early World War II Japanese Type 97 Sniper Rifle with Scope and Canvas Scope Can

This rifle was manufactured by the Kokura Arsenal and is fitted with the earlier small 2.5 power scope. The left side of the receiver is stamped with serial number "4638" next to the Kokura Arsenal symbol. The top of the chrysanthemum has been very lightly ground over and then reblued with the outline intact, with the Kana markings below that. It has the long staff adjustable rear sight, with the inverted "V" front sight with the squared guards and is fitted with a monopod block on the middle barrel band, with the monopod still attached. The scope is the correct early 2.5X model that is marked on the rear ocular piece with "2.5x10 (degrees)/NIKKO/No 5752" with the front part of the scope base numbered "7827" and is fitted with a reproduction rubber eye cup. It has the full length hardwood stock and handguard with the finger grooves on the side of the forearm. It is complete with the original leather sling and a late war green canvas scope can and shoulder strap. It has an all blue metal finish with the bolt remaining in the white.

Very fine with 90% of the blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear. The stock and handguard are both very fine plus with 85% original finish overall, and the typical minor light handling marks and scratches. The scope retains 98% of the black finish with clear sharp markings. The reticle is clear and intact with slightly hazy optics. Mismatched bolt assembly and scope. The leather sling is very fine, still supple with nice original dark color overall and minor age cracking. The canvas scope can and shoulder strap are also very fine plus with a nice light color, tight stitching, and the same for the shoulder strap.
