Scarce Early World War I Remington-UMC Manufactured U.S. Army Model 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is a very nice example of an original late WWI "Remington-UMC" U.S. Army Model 1911 contract pistol. These rare pistols were manufactured in late 1918/19 in their own serial number block of "1 to 21,676". They were manufactured by the Remington Arms-U.M.C. Co., in Bridgeport, Connecticut using their own drawings that did not conform to those used by Colt or the U.S. Government. Consequently most of these pistols were disposed of after WWI due to the non-conforming standardization requirements for part interchangeability with the Colt manufactured Model 1911 pistols. The left side of the slide is marked in two blocks "PATENTED DEC.19.1905/FEB.14.1911.AUG.19.1913./COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO." followed by "MANUFACTURED BY/REMINGTON ARMS UMC CO. INC./BRIDGEPORT. CONN.U.S.A.", with the circled, "REMINGTON/UMC" logo between the two blocks. The right side is marked "MODEL OF 1911/U.S. ARMY CALIBER .45". The left side of the frame extension is stamped with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" with the final U.S. Government inspector's initials "E.E.C." over an "Eagle Head/E" Ordnance inspection proof. The serial number "NO 441" is stamped on the right side of the frame above the trigger. The right side of the barrel lug is stamped with a "P" proofmark with no other proofmarks. The rear of the slide above the firing pin stop is stamped with a single letter "E" provisional inspection mark and so is the left side of the trigger guard bow. The rear underside of the slide numbered "518". This magazine is absent and is complete with a reproduction cardboard shipping box.
