Scarce Early Walther G41(W) Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle with Scope Mount and ZF41 Scope and Can

This is a early production G41(W) rifle manufactured in early to mid 1942 by the Walther factory. These rifles were the first attempt by the German to manufacture a semi-automatic rifle that featured the bang-barrel gas trap mechanism before they were changed to the more reliable G/K-43 series of rifles. These rifles proved too costly and time consuming to manufacture for long term use. These have the early all machined receiver, bolt, bolt carrier and action cover. The left side of the receiver is marked "G41(W)/6423/ac" with a single German Eagle firing proof behind that. Both the left and right side of the receiver and most of the various component have the "Eagle 359" Waffenamt acceptance proof. This example also has the rear sight base which was machined for a scope mount and has been fitted with an older example of a reproduction sniper scope mount with a ZF41 sniper scope. The mount is unmarked, unnumbered and sits slightly askew. The scope is marked "dow/ZF40/1" on the side of the tube. This rifle also includes a nice reproduction scope can that is marked with a small Waffenamt proof on the back side next to "jvb". It is fitted with an all walnut stock and an early style phenolic (plastic) resin handguard which has been numbered on the left side. The underside has the original serial number and original Waffenamt proofs. Two restamped Waffenamt proofs on the left side of the butt area. It is complete with a correct WWII smooth leather German sling, cleaning rod, front sight cover, and the scope has the set of reproduction rain shields
