Scarce Early Transitional Colt Model 1911-A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol, #702135, .45 ACP cal., 5'' barrel, blue finish, checkered walnut grips, one correct magazine, with ''WTG'' inspector's marking in double circle, with one two-tone magazine. Shipped February 13, 1924, in a 1000-gun shipment to the Springfield Armory. This example is one of the earliest 1911-A1 pistols produced, with all features of the A1 pistol but still retaining the ''Model of 1911 U.S. Army'' slide markings. Barrel with intertwined ''HP'' on top of hood, very similar to late WWI pistols as is correct for this model. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 96%+ lightly thinning and toning blue. Grips with just mild flattening. Action is crisp, bore is bright. A nice example of a seldom-seen early 1911-A1 variation. Est.: $5,000-$7,500. (C&R)
