Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 53
The Winchester Model 53 rifle was actually intended as an updated/modernized version of the original Model 1892 lever action rifle. They were manufactured from 1924 to 1932 with this example in 1926. Approximately 25,000 were manufactured in total so it's a fairly rare rifle in terms of production. It was available in only one style, the Sporting Rifle with a 22 inch round tapered barrel, half magazine with a shotgun type butt stock, however it could be ordered on a very limited basis with some select special order features. This beautiful example has a Marbles 34W marked front sight with a standard adjustable sporting rear sight, half magazine, standard walnut forearm with a steel end cap and straight grip walnut stock with a steel serrated flat buttplate. The left side of the barrel is marked with the two line Winchester address markings with the left side marked with Winchester model/trademark, "NICKEL STEEL" markings followed by "25-20 W.C.F." caliber markings. The upper tang has the standard three line Winchester factory markings. The top rear, breech end of the barrel and receiver both have the standard Winchester circled "WP" proofmark.
BBL: 22 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 25-20 WCF
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 6197
Condition:
Excellent with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall, with just a hint of flaking on the underside and front edges of the receiver. The stock and forend both retain most of their original factory varnish with some very minor handling marks in a couple places, some very minor chipping/flaking of the varnish on the rear and underside of the forend. This is a nice example of an all original Winchester Model 53 rifle.
