Nearly all Service Model Ace Pistols were purchased by the military; however this pistol falls in the serial number range of pistols produced in 1938 or 1939 and lacks the "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" markings and Ordnance inspector's stamps found on U.S. Military Service Ace pistols. The right side of the frame is marked with the serial number, "SM678", with a single number "60" on the front edge of the trigger guard bow with the left side of the trigger guard bow stamped with a single letter "P" proof over the Colt "VP" Verified Proof. The side is serial numbered "678" underneath the firing pin stop. The sides of the slide have the standard Colt "Service Model Ace" markings. It is fitted with a standard fixed front sight with a factory adjustable rear sight. The trigger, hammer, slide stop and back strap are standard, pre-war component, with the checkered metal surfaces and barrel is blued with polished chamber area. It is complete with one half-tone blued magazine with the standard pre-war Service Model Ace markings on the floor plate.
