Scarce Early Pattern Parade Tunic for a Lieutenant in the Heer Infantry Regiment Grossdeutschland

Starting life in the Weimar Republic as the Wachregiment Berlin and Kommando der Wachtruppe and serving as the security unit for Berlin, the Infantry Regiment Grossdeutschland (Greater Germany) was formally named in 1939, drawing soldiers from all reaches of Germany, in opposition to the regionally recruited units of the Imperial and Weimar militaries, intended to serve as a flagship unit for the Heer, with the most advanced equipment available and a special set of dress uniforms. These uniforms, designed to invoke the image of the older Imperial units, were only used on parade detail, with more conventional uniforms worn in combat. Grossdeutschland would undergo several expansions and changes during it's activities in France and on the Eastern Front, upgrading to Panzergrenadiers and combining with the elite commandos and infiltrators of the Brandenberg Division to form the Panzerkorps Grossdeutschland, which continued to fight to it's effective extermination in 1945. Gray/green "feldgrau" construction, with the signature long double-bar collar litzen on the green collar, white waffenfarbe piping, silver bullion accented cuffs and the silver braid Lieutenant's shoulder boards with gilt "GD" devices. The right breast bears a silver bullion Nazi eagle, and the right sleeve bears the silver bullion "Grossdeutschland" cuff title. The interior is green cloth lined with integral belt, a faint ink stamp inside the right breast, and an internal pocket on the left which contains a nametag. The tag, from maker "Johann Ebinger", bears a faint ink signature.
