This is a very fine example of a early Nazi era Mauser "Sneak" Luger pistol. These sneak L lugers produced in the 1920-1933 time frame are really the first true Nazi era lugers ever produced in substantial quantities at the Mauser factory. These lugers were primarily left over WWI lugers that survived not being destroyed, which were reworked in the 1920 era to commercial lugers, and then in some case, subsequently reworked again to remove the standard markings to hide their manufacture and origin to circumvent the last remnants of the Versailles Treaty. Typically the only markings that will be found on this series of luger will either some of the various 1920 commercial proofs along with later mauser proofs (as in this example) or in some cases no-markings at all except the early Mauser rework proofs, along with the remaining sear safety spring over the side plate. This L luger the Crown N, commercial proofs on the underside of the barrel, the left side of the barrel extension along with a double stamp Eagle/154 rework proof on the right side of the barrel extension. The safety and extractor are marked "GESICHERT" and GELADEN" respectively. The front grip strap of this example is marked "L. Sta.174." for Landjagerei-Stadt. It has the standard rust blue finish with straw colored small parts. It is complete with one early magazine with the tin-plated magazine body with the aluminum base that has been numbered in the Police style with the large serial numbers "5490/3/Sun Burst "K" proof".
