Scarce Documented Winchester Model 1895 Flat-Side Sporting Rifle with Special Order Half-Octagon Bar
This Winchester Model 1895 Flat-Side Rifle was manufactured in 1896. This rifle has a rare, special order, half-round/half-octagon 26-inch barrel and is pictured and described on page 455 of "THE WINCHESTER BOOK" by George Madis. The rifle has a blue barrel and receiver with case-hardened hammer, trigger and crescent steel buttplate. The stock and forearm are varnished walnut and the distinctive forearm has a factory, ebony, inlay. The barrel is fitted with a dovetailed front sight with fixed, nickel-silver, blade and a sporting style rear sight. The top of the barrel is roll stamped: "- MAUNFACTURED BY THE - / - WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A-". In two lines ahead of the rear sight and "38-72 W.C.F." in a single line between the rear sight and the receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped; "-WINCHESTER- / MODEL 1895". The trigger plate is stamped with two patent dates and the serial number, "2612" is stamped on the lower receiver tang behind the trigger.

Very good. The rifle retains approximately half of the original blue finish. The remainder of the surfaces of the metal surfaces have a very attractive, gray brown patina. All of the metal surfaces are smooth and are free from rust or pitting. The barrel and receiver markings are sharp. The walnut stock and forearm are lightly sanded and reoiled with no significant handling marks and a minor gap (of the wood) around tang. Mechanically fine. This is a very good example of a rare Winchester Model 1895 Flat-Side Rifle with equally rare, special order, 26-inch, half-round/half-octagon barrel.
