Scarce Colt Single Action Army Flattop Target Revolver in Rare 32-20 Caliber with Factory Letter

Estimate: $30000 - 50000
Manufactured in 1895, this is one of only 925 Single Action Army Flattop Target revolvers manufactured by Colt between 1888 and 1896, and one of only 30 chambered for the 32-20 caliber. The accompanying factory letter confirms the .32/20 caliber, barrel length, blue finish with the stocks as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 2 (The other matching gun from that shipment number 162893 is also offered in this auction!) to R.H. Shayer, address unavailable on October 25, 1909. Note that this revolver was shipped 14 years after manufacture, thus leading to the factory finishing the revolver at that time. There are features on this revolver such as the transverse mounted cylinder retention crossbolt which was offered soon after this frame was produced. The cylinder also appears of the 1909 shipping period, rather than the 1895 manufacture date. The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.", the left side is marked "32 W.C.F." and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent date marking followed by the circled Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The revolver features a brass front blade and dovetailed rear sights, all blue finish with a casehardened hammer and fitted with matching number original checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval.
