Manufactured circa 1837-1838, with only 200 produced. Measuring 1 7/8 inches long with square shoulders and 2 inches in diameter, this is an eight shot cylinder from a Colt ring lever rifle. Wrapped around the cylinder is the "centaur" scene, featuring a deer being pursued by a rifle-armed centaur and 3 men with horses flanked by grooves at the front and rear. Later models would include a house in the cylinder scene, identifying this as a Number One cylinder. The number "1 8" is present on the rear face.

Condition: Very good, with a solid brown patina overall, showing some minor handling marks and spotting. The number on the rear face is solid, and the cylinder scene is excellent, sharply defined with attractive detail. You just have to ask yourself the following question if you are indecisive about bidding on this cylinder: When am I going to find another?
