Scarce Colt Model 1878 Sheriff's Model Frontier Six Shooter Double Action Army Revolver with Factory
Manufactured in 1881, this revolver is marked with the short two line address on top of the barrel and "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" in an etched panel on the left side. The upper left front of the trigger guard is marked "44CF" and the serial number is marked on the butt. The cylinder is mis-matched. Blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, caliber, 4" barrel with grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped in a shipment of 6 to Simmons Hardware Company, St. Louis, Mo. On October 15, 1881.

Very good. The revolver retains 50% of the original nickel finish with areas of gray patina with some moderate pitting. The majority of the finish loss is due to flaking. The acid etched panel is original and mostly legible. The grips are good showing moderate wear, a few minor dings and crisp checkering. The markings are readable. The cylinder doesn't lock up tightly but the action does function otherwise.
