Scarce Colt Model 1855 Revolving Carbine
The Model 1855 was manufactured from 1856 to 1864 with a total production of about 4,400. This example has a pinched front sight with graduated folding leaf rear sight. The top strap is marked "{COLTS PT} {ADDRESS COL. COLT / HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.}." The five round fluted cylinder is without a cylinder scene. All parts were blue except for the hammer and loading lever which were casehardened. The stock is straight grip walnut with an iron buttplate. Matching serial number stamped on the barrel under the loading lever, both tangs and the bottom of the buttplate. Sling swivels are mounted on the lower tang and the bottom of the frame.

Fair. The barrel is now a mottled dark patina showing pitting mixed with handling marks and some overall dings. The right side of the barrel just above the loading lever has had a small repair made. The frame and cylinder show some deep pitting and overall dings. The wood is fair as period refinished with pressure marks and dings throughout.
