This is an example of a scarce Colt 1855 Revolving Carbine manufactured from 1856 to 1864 with a total production of only about 4,400. The top strap is marked "{COLTS PT / 1856} {ADDRESS COL. COLT / HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.}" and the matching serial number is marked on the lower tang, toe of the buttplate and bottom of the barrel under the loading lever. The barrel is equipped with a dovetailed brass blade front sight and one fixed, two folding leaf rear sight marked "300"and "600". The five round fluted cylinder, blue finish with casehardened hammer and loading lever. Mounted with a straight grip walnut stock with an iron crescent buttplate. Sling swivels are mounted on the lower tang and the bottom of the frame directly ahead of the cylinder.

Condition: Fair. The barrel has a mottled brown patina with some scattered minor pitting and a few minor dings. There appears to have been a repair made to the barrel on the right side above the front of the loading lever. The frame and a mottled gray patina and the cylinder a dark patina. The cylinder shows overall moderate to heavy pitting and there is minor pitting on the frame around the cylinder. The stock has been period refinished and remains good with scattered minor pressure dents, dings and scratches. The patent date on the top strap is partially visible, otherwise the markings are clear. The action is fine.
