This is an example of a Chinese contract Remington-Lee Model 1882 Bolt Action Rifle with the later production 32 inch barrel. Chinese contract rifles are found in the serial number ranges of 14,058-20,768 and 23,244-24,897. This rifle falls into the first production run that began in late 1884. The receiver ring has the Chinese ideogram which reads, "Manufactured by Remington Factory of America, The Jui Sheng Import Co. of Shanghai, Agents". The left receiver wall has the 1879 patent date and the upper left receiver flat has the two line Remington marking followed by the serial number. The barrel correctly has the lug on the right side for a saber bayonet. "U" marked barrel bands and a rear sight with a base graduated to 500 yards and a leaf graduated to 1,200 yards. Mounted on a smooth straight grip stock with "A.H.J." stamped on the right side of the buttstock. The magazine has two notches on the rear rib so that the magazine could be held in two different positions. The highest notch allowed the rifle to function as a single shot while the second notch allowed for the bolt to feed cartridges from the magazine. Included is a combination tool for the upper barrel band screw.
