Scarce C.S. Pettingill Double Action Army Model Percussion Revolver
Manufactured in the late 1860s for Pettengill by Rogers, Spencer & Co. with a total production of about 3,400. The right side of the top strap is marked "PETTINGILLS / PATENT 1856" and "RAYMOND & ROBITAILLE / PATENTED 1858" on the left side. The bottom of the frame is marked ahead of the trigger guard is marked "PATENTED / NOV. 4 1862". Matching serial number on the butt, inside of the trigger guard and cylinder. Fitted with smooth two piece walnut grips. This particular revolver is absent of any military markings.

Condition: Fine, with 40% plus of the original blue finish, with a smooth brown patina on the balance. There is some light spotting on the barrel and cylinder. The grips are very fine, with some light chipping and wear on the lower edges, and a few minor dings on the bottoms. There is some play in the cylinder and it rebounds a bit when the trigger is released, otherwise the action is fine. One seldom encounters these Pettingill revolvers in fine condition.
