Scarce British PIAT Anti-Tank Projector/ Launcher
Full nomenclature Projector, Infantry, Anti-Tank, the PIAT is a man portable spigot mortar introduced in 1942 as a replacement for the Boys anti-tank rifle, and would remain in service to 1950. The projectile was launched by way of a large spring driven piston striking the propellant charge in the round, which would have to be manually cocked by the operator before firing. Though the German Panzerfaust/Panzerschreck and American Bazooka weapons were easier to use, the PIAT was easier to produce due to lower pressure requirements, and had reduced blowback compared to the others, increasing concealment and safety when firing in close quarters. Measures 38 1/2" in total length, with the projectile carrier measuring 9 3/8" long, folding pin front and 3-port aperture rear sights, an adjustable monopod, combination trigger guard and handrest with long trigger, right side mounted safety and a grooved pistol grip, canvas cheekpiece and a canvas covered recoil pad on the buttplate. Weapon also comes with an insert adaptor for firing lower diameter cartridges.
