This revolver is a First Type, manufactured in the early 1860s with about 400 produced. The cylinder must be removed for loading by withdrawing the jointed/hinged lever under the barrel which acts both a center pin and ejector rod. The frame has the standard broad scroll engraving. The top barrel flat is marked "BACON MFG CO NORWICH CONN". The matching serial number is marked on the left side of the frame under the grip, on the bottom barrel flat and on the rear face of the cylinder. Dove tailed blade front and frame notch rear sights, and fitted with smooth two piece grips. This model was the largest of the metallic cartridge firearms than Bacon produced and considered by collectors as a "Secondary Martial" handgun.
