Scarce Antique Winchester Model 1892 Takedown Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter

This is a very fine example of an antique Winchester Model 1892 Takedown lever action rifle manufactured in 1895 with Winchester factory letter. The letter describes the rifle features as 32 caliber, Octagon barrel, Plain trigger and Takedown. It states that this rifle was shipped from the Winchester warehouse on July 26, 1899. The rifle has a blue octagon barrel, full length magazine, forearm cap and receiver. The hammer, lever and crescent buttplate are casehardened. The straight grain American walnut stock and forearm are oil finished. The barrel has a standard sporting style front sight with nickel silver blade and a sporting style rear sight with screw adjustable centerpiece. The upper receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation "32 W.C.F." is stamped on top of the barrel ahead of the takedown collar. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped with the First Style legend "MODEL 1892./-WINCHESTER-/PAT. OCT. 14. 1884". The serial number is roll-stamped across the bottom of the receiver. Model 1892 takedown rifles with octagon barrels are scarce.

Extremely fine. The rifle is all original and retains 90% of the blue and casehardened finish. The barrel, magazine and forearm cap retain nearly all of the blue finish with some minor edge wear. The takedown collar has some finish loss and light handling marks. The receiver has nearly 90% of the blue finish intact. There is minor finish loss on the receiver high points. The blue on the upper and lower tang has aged to a silver-brown patina. The bolt retains nearly all of the blue finish. 90% of the niter blue finish is present on the loading gate. The hammer, lever and crescent buttplate retain more than 90% of the casehardened finish with strong case colors. All of the markings are sharp. The stock and forearm retain most of the original oil finish and are in very good overall condition with scattered, minor, handling marks. This is a very fine example of a scarce Winchester Model 1892 Takedown Lever Action Rifle with octagon barrel.
