Non-Regulation pattern 1862 Ames Cutless for Navy Officer's & Chief Petty Officer's. Similar in design to the regulation Model 1860 enlisted men's Cutlass.This1862 Cutlass was advertised by Ames as an "Officer's Cutlass". The Cutlass has a 26 inch curved single fuller blade, stamped "1862" on the obverse ricasso and marked the Ames scroll on the reverse panel. The brass hilt has a helmet shaped pommel and half basket quald identical to the Model 1860 enlisted Cutlass except the grip is decorated with the cut-out letters "USN". The grip is covered with black leather and wrapped with twisted brass wire. This is a scarce U.S. Navy Cutlass.

Very good. The blade is bright overall, with scattered spots and handling marks. The hilt has a mellow, un-polished patina. The leather grip has been re-wrapped and re-wired.
