Scarce Allen & Wheelock Center Hammer Lipfire Navy Revolver

Also known as the 3rd Model Lipfire, these revolvers were manufactured in the early 1860s with around 500 manufactured, and although no government contracts were given for this model, it is considered by collectors as a martial piece. This example features fixed sights, a 6 shot round cylinder with notches for cartridge lips at the rear wall. Blue with casehardened hammer and trigger guard. The left barrel flat is marked "ALLEN & WHEELOCK WORCHESTER, MASS. U.S./ALLEN'S PAT'S, SEPT. 7, NOV. 9, 1858" (traces remain). Matching numbers on the left side of the frame under the grip, loading gate latch, back of both grips, cylinder pin, and cylinder. Fitted with smooth walnut grips.

Very good. The cylinder has a smooth dark patina, otherwise the revolver has a smooth brown-gray patina overall with some minor flash pitting. The grips are fine with edge wear, a repaired right panel, and some minor pressure dents. Mechanically fine.
