Manufactured by Alvin Cushing, a Troy, New York, gunsmith. The top of the barrel is marked "A.D. CUSHING TROY N.Y." The bird head grip frame is brass with the remaining metal surfaces (iron) having a blue finish. The lock plate and hammer have a light floral scroll engraving. It has a bead front sight and a notch rear sight. Fitted with smooth bird head grips. Cushing is not listed in Flaydermans' Guide and a simple internet search found that Cushing has a cane gun patent which was issued in 1831.

Condition: Very good. The barrel retains 90% period applied blue finish showing some thinning to a gray. The hammer and lock plate retain 20% period niter blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The brass is fine. Overall a protective coating remains on the metal surfaces. The refinished grips are very good with a repaired chip, a hairline stress crack near the lock plate, and a filled repair (some putty is missing) with some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
