Scarce 3rd Model Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Musket, with angular bayonet, scabbard and leather hanger, #482005, .44-40 cal., 30'' three-banded round barrel, blue finish, case hardened lever and hammer, walnut musket buttstock and forend, with musket sights, sling swivels and trap in butt containing original cleaning rod. Correct unmarked bright metal angular bayonet with black lacquered chiseled nose scabbard, black leather belt hanger, and smooth brass swivel. Shipped from the warehouse April 26, 1895, with factory verification, and additional letter by George Madis, written in his own hand, discussing the scarcity of this bayonet and the markings on the throat of the scabbard ''McKenney's Pat. Jan. 12, 1886''. Condition is fine to near excellent retaining 92% thinning and toning factory blue, with most of the losses to left sideplate. Stocks with minor scuffs and oil darkening near metal surfaces. Niter-blue loading gate remains approx. 95% vivid with no real evidence of cartridge wear. Bayonet shows only the lightest carbon spotting with very small losses and thinning to lacquer finish of scabbard and light scuffing to leather hanger. Action functions as new, bore is mirror bright with very minor toning near muzzle. Est.: $3,000-$5,000. (Antique)
