Scarce 2 Inch National Arms Number 1 Single Shot Derringer

First manufactured by Moore and then by National Arms from 1865 to 1870, with a total quantity estimated at 6,000 equally divided between the two companies. This example was manufactured by National with the top of the barrel marked "NATIONAL ARMS CO." and the underside marked "PAT FEB 24 1863". The derringer has the scarce 2 inch silver plated barrel and has no provisions for an extractor. Half-moon blade front and hammer notch rear sights. The brass frame features a broad scroll engraving on a punch dot background with a floral design around the hammer. The barrel has wedges of floral scrollwork at the breech and at the front sight. It has a serrated spur trigger and hammer, with the grip area having three checkered panels.

Very fine. The barrel retains 90% of the original silver plating with the balance a gray patina. The frame has a very attractive dark aged patina with strong traces of silver plating in the grip area, around the hammer, and around the trigger. Mechanically fine.
