Scarce 1937  S/27  Cod3e Model K98 Bolt Action Rifle with Sling and Bayonet
This is an example of a scarce pre WWII German K98 rifle that was manufactured by the Erfurt Arsenal. The top of the receiver ring is marked "S/27 / 1937", the right side with three "eagle/280" proofs and the left side with an eagle proof and the serial number. The left side wall is marked "Mod. 98.". The left rear of the barrel is marked with an eagle proof and the matching serial number. The right side of the barrel directly behind the handguard is marked with three eagle proofs. All visible numbers match and the "eagle/280" proof appears on various parts. Inverted "V" front ramp sight and rear tangent sight graduated to 200 meters. Mounted with a walnut stock and handguard with three proofs on the right side of the buttstock, "P" over a droop winged eagle/359 proof in the wrist and the matching serial number over "K / eagle/359". Complete with a leather sling, "Mod 98" marked winter trigger and bayonet with metal scabbard and leather frog. The bayonet has a wooden handle, is mis-matched and marked "S/185". The scabbard matches the bayonet and the back of the frog is marked "JOHANN FRON??? / WIEN.XV.1938".

Condition: Very fine. The rifle retains 85% faded original blue finish with some muzzle wear, high edge wear on the receiver, thinning on the bolt handle, normal wear on the bolt, and a small area of minor pitting on the right side of the barrel directly below the rear sight. The stock is fine with scattered minor dents, scratches and dings. The stock markings are crisp. The sling is good, showing some minor age cracking. The bayonet, scabbard and frog are all very good.
