Scarce 1936 Dated S/42 Code Nazi Navy Contract Mauser Luger Pistol

This is a very scarce early pre-WWII Mauser Luger pistol procured for the German Navy. These early Lugers can only be distinguished by the serial number block of documented pistols (listed as being in the "l and m" letter suffix) and the Navy property markings on the grip straps. This example is marked "N/1647" on the front strap indicating it was issued by the North Sea Fleet. The chamber is dated 1936 and the front toggle has the wartime code of "S/42" for the Mauser factory. The right side barrel extension is stamped double "Eagle/63" Waffenamt proof along with the single Eagle firing proof. It is numbered in the military fashion with the full serial number (5711L) on the front of the frame with the serial number (5711) on the underside of the barrel and the left side of the barrel extension with the last two digits (11) stamped on the various small parts. This scarce Luger is accompanied with one original German Navy issue magazine that has the nickel plated body with the aluminum base marked "N/1004X/2520/d/Eagle/211".

Manufucture: Mauser
Model: P08
BBL: 3 7/8 inch round

Guage: 9 mm Luger Auto
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 5711l

Very fine. The pistol retains 85% plus of the original blue finish with edge and high spot wear, and thinning on the front strap. The various small parts retain 70% of the straw color. The grips are very fine showing even honest wear across the otherwise crisp checkering. A fine example of an early 1936 date German Navy Luger.
