Scarce 1934 "K-Date" S/42 Code Nazi Navy Luger Pistol

This is a scarce "K" date (1934) production "S/42" code military Luger pistol with the rare "Kriegsmarine" Navy proofs marks. The "K Date" P.08 Lugers were manufactured in 1934 and represent the very first true German Army Luger contract pistol. This Luger is a mid-production sub-variation 2 example with the mixed script/gothic markings. Only 3,550 sub-variation 2 Lugers were produced of an estimated 10,930 K-date luger pistols. This specific example is even rarer in that it has the very desirable German Navy "Eagle/M" Navy proofs with Naval property markings on the front grip strap. Additionally, this example also carries the extremely rare early "1920 Weimar era" small "Eagle/O" proof on the left side of the barrel extension and barrel. There were only about 300 Navy Lugers procured from this variation and they are found in the 1,983-2,400 number range, putting this at the end of the Navy serial number range. This chamber area is stamped with the Script "K" date with the mixed Script/Gothic "S/42" marked toggle with an additional Gothic "S" stamped on the front edge of the toggle. It has standard military marked serial numbers on the various parts with the additional Script/Gothic proof marks. The front grip strap also has the "O/1916" German Navy property markings, indicating it was issued out of the Baltic Naval station headquartered at Kiel (Marinestation der Ostsee). This serial number and production data is also listed on page 15 and 106 of Jan Stills book on "Third Reich Luger". The left side of the barrel has the early boxed "O/37" acceptance stamps as used by the Navy along with an early Mauser Eagle firing proof located on the right side of the barrel extension. The pistol is complete with one matching nickel plated magazine. The aluminum base is re-stamped to match pistol with a Gothic "S/2282/O/37" acceptance proof. There is an import mark ("VEGA SAC CA 9MM GERMANY") present on the underside of the right frame rail cutout.

Very fine, with 80% of the blued finish remaining with edge and high spot wear with clear markings overall. The small parts retain 60% of their original straw colors. The replacement grips are also in very fine condition. A very nice example of a rare pre-WWII German K-Date Navy luger pistol.
