Colt manufactured approximately 7,366 Model 1883 shotguns between 1883 and 1895, with this particular shotgun manufactured in 1887. Single brass bead sight on the smooth concave solid rib which is marked with the one line address at the breech end. The bottom of the action is marked "PATENTED/AUG. 22. SEPT. 19, 1882" and the matching serial number is marked on the lower tang, water table, barrel flat and forearm hardware. Double triggers, brown finished Damascus barrels, casehardened action, blue remaining parts, tang mounted safety and mounted with a checkered splinter forearm with ebony forend insert and round knob pistol grip stock with checkered Rampant Colt hard rubber buttplate and silver initial oval. The Model 1883 shotgun is considered one of the finest of all the American produced shotguns. Length of pull is 14 3/8 inches.

Condition: Fine. The barrels retain 30% original brown finish with much of the Damascus pattern remaining. The action retains 40% original case colors with a smooth grayish brown patina on the balance. The break lever and trigger guard have scattered traces of the original blue finish with a smooth gray and brown patina on the balance. The wood is good with a number of small pressure dents and scratches on the stock and overall crisp checkering. The markings are crisp and clear. The safety is a bit stiff, otherwise the mechanics are fine.
