Saxon style hand and a half fighting broadsword in the style of 1560 to 1590 showing fine quality forging and construction with pierced blade. This sword measures 50 ½” overall with a 41 ¼” blade measuring 1 5/8” wide at the widest point. Theaging is natural and consistent and the pommel nut shows no evidence of being disturbed. The leather grip shows some losses but is intact and at least good with traces of a red cloth covering. We have had varying opinions as to the age of this swordfrom three experts who all agree it is absolutely antique but disagree on whether it is actually 16th century or made in the Victorian era. There were a few excellent makers in the Victorian era whose works have fooled even the best experts andmajor museums. Est.: $2500-$5,000+++
