Biography
Jacob Epstein, Sculptor (1921-2003). b. 1921, Poland. Immigrated 1959. Studies: Art Academy, Poland. Teaching; Academy, Lwow, Poland; a founder of the Institute of Plastic Arts, Bat Yam, where he directed the sculpture department; Bezalel, Jerusalem. Prizes: 1968 First Prize for Memorial to the Jews of Lwow; 1984 First Prize in International Competition on the subject of "The Fighter against the Nazis"; 1969 Bat Yam Prize (three times); Prize from Minister of Culture, Poland; won competition at Yad Vashem, Jerusalem, for memorial to Korschak; 2000 Eli Asherov Prize for his life's work. Worked on restoration of architectural and sculptural sites in Ukraine. Work in Public Place: Portrait of Sholom Alechem in Israel Embassy, Warsaw. Died in 2003.
