Savage Model 99 Lever Action Rifle, #48304, .30-30 cal., blued octagonal barrel has been shortened to 24", with color case hardened lever. Straight grip walnut stock with steel "Savage Quality" buttplate, and Schnabel forend, which is numbered and matches the receiver; buttstock is numbered but does not match this rifle. With blade front sight, rear sight has been removed and filled with a dovetailed King sight blank, receiver with an adjustable Redfield sight (no aperture). Sling swivel has been added to the bottom of the barrel. Earlier type bolt with rectangular cocking indicator. Mfg'd ca. 1904-1905. Rifle rates in good condition overall. Barrel with general light scratches, approx. 90% thinning and toning blue remains. Only trace amounts of finish remain on the lever and receiver which has silvered out. Receiver with several scratches, left side with a few spots of cleaned pitting, buttplate with spots of corrosion. Factory lettering is clear. Forend is much lighter in color and the finish is worn, with several small to medium-sized surface dents and scratches, and a larger gouge to the upper right edge. Buttstock is darker in color with an approx. 1.5" hairline crack to the upper edge of the wrist; finish shows general fine crazing. Lever action is crisp and cycles smoothly; rifling is clearly defined but there is a couple inch-long sections of surface rust at about the mid-point of the bore. Est.: $400-$700. (C&R)
