Lot of 20. These are all issued 1882-84, signed by RP Keating as supt. Includes three with RN-G imprinted revenue. All are Bank of California. The Savage Mine, located between Gold Hill and Virginia City, bordered the Gould & Curry to the north and Hale & Norcross to the south. Though separate corporations, Savage and Hale & Norcross shared a closely linked history, facing similar challenges and successes under the supervision of James G. Fair in the 1870s and R. P. Keating in the 1880s. They regularly exchanged resources and workers, and in 1875 cooperated with neighboring companies to sink the Chollar-Norcross-Savage Shaft. Later, in the 1890s, after the discovery of the Brunswick Lode, they joined forces with several other major Comstock mines to dig another large shaft.
