For your consideration is this Santo Domingo Pueblo Turquoise & Jasper Necklace. Kewa Pueblo, formerly known as Santo Domingo, is located on the Rio Grande and is particularly known for heishi necklaces, as well as a style of necklace consisting of tear-shaped, flat "tabs" strung on heishe shell or turquoise beads. The tabs were made from bone inset with a design in the traditional mosaic style, using bits of turquoise, jet and shell. These beautiful and colorful necklaces are also sometimes incorrectly identified as "Depression Jewelry", however their origin certainly predates the Great Depression, and they are still being made today in large quantities by Kewa artists. This necklace shows great attention to detail and is in good condition. It shows eleven Cripple Creek Turquoise tabs on eleven Light brown Banded Jasper tabs. This necklace is finished off with beautiful array of Heishe shells showing rounded shells with beautiful patterns on one side and the traditional cream color of the shell on the other. The measurements of this necklace are 16" clasp to clasp.
