Issued in 1873 to Geo. W. McLellan for 5 shares at $500 each. Large vignette of a company lumberyard showing workers, stacks of wood and smokestacks billowing. This is an extremely rare certificate as the company only had 600 total authorized shares and they were pricey at $500 each. Low certificate #17. Signed by Wm. H. Hall as president. Principal place of business: San Jose, California. The company was founded by William Patrick Dougherty, known as “the Lumber King of Santa Clara Valley”. The lumber mills were located in the Santa Cruz mountains, 25 miles from San Jose. Only one of these we’ve seen in issued form in many years. Some yellowing at the left edge from the stub. Red pen cancelled. VF. -61679
