Mary is the granddaughter of Serefina Tafoya and the daughter of Christina Naranjo. Mary began actively making pottery in the early 1930's. She learned pottery making from her grandmother who was the mother of both Camillo Tafoya and Margaret Tafoya. She makes traditional coiled pottery of clay obtained locally. She fires in the traditional way with wood and dung. The water serpent (Avanyu) and bear paw are her favorite designs. Mary makes both black and red pottery. Mary has won many awards at Indian Market and has participated in a number of exhibitions.
