Confederate Major Alexander S. "Sandy" Pendleton Book Signed: The Bombardier and Pocket Gunner, " A.S. Pendleton 1861 of the Southern Confederacy 1st year". Sandy Pendleton, of Virginia, was the son of William N. Pendleton, an instructor at VMI and friend to Stonewall Jackson. The elder Pendleton became a Confederate Brigadier General of Artillery, whereas his son served as one of Jackson's aides, only to be killed in action late in the war. Sandy Pendleton's inscription recalls the heady early days of "Southern Independence" before the grim realities of fraternal war became manifest. The book bearing his inscription is rare and highly collectible in its own right. This eighth edition was written by Captain Ralph Ayde of the Royal Artillery, and it was published in London in 1827. A small pocket manual, 3.75" x 5.75", it contains over 394 pages of artillery instruction. Tightly bound with light foxing throughout, loose calf covers. Fine condition.

Important notice:<
