Vamana

In Hinduism Vamana is the representation of a small deity and the fifth incarnation of Vishnu. The first four incarnations of Vishnu present the first of four world ages in Indian mythology, whereas the fifth embodiment is considered as the first in the second period. According to the religious text Vamana Purana Vishnu appears as a midget Brahman, which grows in the story up to a giant and separates heaven, earth and underworld with three steps. Vamana is often shown with an umbrella, which he carries in his hand and the deity is the identification of the Indian priest from the Brahmin caste.
