Lot of 7. Oscar Hugh La Grange was a colonel in the Union Army during the American Civil War who was brevetted to the grade of brigadier general in 1866. After the war, he served as superintendent of San Francisco Mint. 1) 1873 letter to La Grange from California Governor Newton Booth. Written on State of California Executive Department letterhead, the message is an endorsement of Mrs. Holmes for a position. Signed by Booth, CA Governor from 1871-75. 2) 1869 letter and cover to La Grange from WA Woodward, Alta California Newspaper Office. Message is an endorsement for someone to serve as a watchman at the Mint. 3) 1874 letter and cover from Placerville, CarY House corner ad. cover. Message is an introduction of AR McFarlin for a job at the mint. 4) 1872 San Francisco letter to La Grange, recommending John Connor for a job as watchman at the Mint. Signed by numerous people. 5) 1869 letter on Wells Fargo & Co SF letterhead from Charles Lane recommending Thomas Finigan.
