San Francisco,CA - c1905-1940s - Northern California Miscellaneous Post Card Collection :
Lot of 95 pieces including all varieties, some real photo, some chromo litho, color repros, etc. Most cards picture scenes of and around San Francisco—the earliest few written just months after that city’s disastrous earthquake on April 18, 1906. A majority of the cards that were mailed are postmarked between 1906 and 1920; a number of others are later with postmarks into the 1930s and early 1940s. A few of the more remarkable include: color card of the Sing Fat Co., leading Chinese Bazaar in San Francisco’s Chinatown; a number of 1906 real photos of San Francisco, one showing the quake’s destruction of the Lick House Entrance in the Bullock Jones building and another showing destruction along Hayes St; another 1906 card of Sutro Heights has a note reading, “Frisco is full of ‘bad men.’ Dangerous to go out; “ a 1917 card depicting the stairway to the parapet of the Cliff House; an RPC of the scenic railway at Shasta Springs, dated 1922; one each of the North Star Mill and the Champion Mill in Grass Valley and Nevada City; several of Yosemite and Yellowstone National Park; a trio of old Spanish missions—at Lodi, San Juan Capistrano, and San Jose; and another interesting photo of mounted (all on white horses) U.S. Troopers on a fallen Sequoia tree. Many other interesting scenes.
