Adams & Co Exchange Office San Francisco, CA First and Second of Exchange to pay to the order of C. Hunter & Co. Both Bills of Exchange are numbered 382 and are on one sheet of paper. Each has a series of three vignettes. The vignette in the top center is of a group of miners adjacent to a mining camp mining with a long tom sluice. The vignette on the left is of three women in gowns yearning together. The bottom vignette is of a California seal. The sheet with the two bills of exchange measures 11 ½” x 8 ½”. There are two black streaks running along the left of each bill. Freeman & Co. was later absorbed by Adams & Co [Bancroft, Vol. VII, p. 150 ]. C.E. Hunter & Co. was a general merchandise operation located along Jackson St., between Sansome St. and Battery St in San Francisco [Bancroft, Vol. VI, p. 175]. Printed on white paper, excellent condition. Type II, Variety IIA. Fine Condition.
