Crew of the fireboat "Bill Kettner" pose in foreground with battleships moored in background. Image measures 8" x 6" and with single black matte measures 11" x 9". Minor bend to upper right corner. Kettner was honored in two singular ways by the city of San Diego. The San Diego Fire Department built a fire boat entirely by hand in 1919, christening it the Bill Kettner. In July, 1921, a second tribute was paid to Kettner when the San Diego City Council agreed to change the name of Arctic Street, for its entire length, to Kettner Boulevard. During the San Diego Exposition, May 13, 1915, was declared Kettner Day.
