San Diego,CA - 1910 - Steam Engine #3, San Diego-Cuyamaca Eastern Railroad Photograph :
With tender car and two passenger cars at a station photograph. Image measures 8 x 6”, and overall size with single black matte is 10-3/4 x 8-1/2”. Focus is good; contrast is fair to good. Upper left corner of matte is slightly bent with little surface loss. Minimal wear at upper right and lower left corners. Faint marks across coal car area. Slightly yellowed overall. Photographer noted to be Fred O. Bloom and Wife of La Mesa, California. Inscribed on reverse is “Henry Farber, 1910. Fireman on No. 3 running from San Diego, Calif., to Julian (east of San Diego).” The trains of the San Diego – Cuyamaca Eastern Railroad would stop at any place along the route if signaled. The railroad changed what had been a 25-mile, all-day wagon trip into a two-hour excursion.
