Samuel W. Crawford Autograph Letter Signed.
Samuel W. Crawford Autograph Letter Signed. Signed: S.W. Crawford, one page, 4.8", 8", Union Club stationery, New York, May 3, 1880. Crawford was a Union brigadier general who commanded a battery at Fort Sumter, and later led at Antietam, Gettysburg, and Five Forks. The letter is his acceptance of an invitation to dinner where he will apparently be joining Gen. Philip Sheridan. An interesting fact about Crawford is that he is one of only two men who attained the rank of General to witness both Fort Sumter and Appomattox. The letter is in very fine condition; pencil notation in upper left.
