One of the founding fathers of Sotheby’s auction house. ALS signed “S. Sotheby,” one page, 7.5 x 9, September 14, 1807. Letter to an unidentified gentleman. In part: “You may forward us the books as soon as you please; & the moment we receive them we will inform you of the same. We will then lose no time in collectating [sic] them with the catalogue, that you may draw on us for the amt.” Intersecting folds (a vertical fold passing through his name), creases, wrinkling, and paper loss from removal of the red wax seal on the integral second page, otherwise very good condition.
