ALS signed “Mark,” one page, 4.25 x 7, no date but annotated on the reverse as June 19, 1887. Letter to New York Times critic and columnist Edward H. House, in full: "I have found a sheet of paper at last, & hasten to send you my line & say, thank you with all my heart. If you have forgiven me, it is all that I desire—& that which happened is as dead & buried as if it had never occurred." In fine condition. Clemens and House had a tumultuous friendship—at times collaborators, and at times enemies. During this period, House was working on a dramatization of Twain's The Prince and the Pauper—a project that became wound up in litigation between the two. An interesting piece of literary correspondence.
