Smith pens the first third of ‘America.’ In full: “Let music swell the breeze / And ring from all the trees / Sweet freedom’s song / Let mortal tongues awake / Let all that breathe partake / Let rocks their silence break / The sound prolong.” Signed at the conclusion, “S. F. Smith, Written in 1832, Penned March 25, 1892, First sung in Park St. Ch., Boston, July 4, 1832.” Sheet is affixed to an identical size piece of cardstock. In very good condition, with uniform toning from previous display and dampstaining to lower left corner.
