Boston-born Baptist minister and academic (1808–1895) best known as the lyricist of ‘America’ (’My Country ’Tis of Thee’), written while he was a student at Andover Theological Seminary. Printed lyrics to all four verses of ‘America,’ 4.5 x 7.5, signed at the bottom in black ink, “S. F. Smith 1832.” In fine, clean condition. Any example of this classic collectible Americana have become quite elusive.
