Sought-after autograph manuscript of his poem "America," one page, 9.75 x 6.75, signed at the conclusion, "S. F. Smith, Written Feb. 1832, Newton Centre, Mass, Apr. 15, 1885." Smith pens the four original verses of his iconic poem, beginning: "My country 'tis of thee, / Sweet land of liberty, / of thee I sing. / Land where my fathers died, / Land of the Pilgrims' pride, / From every mountain side, / Let freedom ring." In very good to fine condition, with two areas of thin paper at the top, a tiny tear to the top edge, and all of the writing light but legible.
