In full: "<I>Sir, I presume this will be in compliance with your request. Yr Ob Servt Saml. F. B. Morse.</B></I>" Known mostly for his invention of the single wire telegraph system and the code named after him, Morse (1791-1872) was also a painter of portraits and historic scenes.
